Day 23: All About Me

Something you crave a lot

I crave alone time a lot. I have not spent 24 hours to myself since I was 21 years old and I crave that time.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love my life as a mom and a wife and a teacher…. However, I miss me. I miss taking spontaneous trips by myself to places I’ve never been. I miss driving down back roads to look at houses and listen to my radio. I miss lying in bed and doing absolutely nothing. Heck, I miss going to the potty by myself. Yes, I just said potty. All of these things are luxuries and I miss it. A LOT!

But, it’s okay. One day, I won’t have the soccer games or the play dates or the tickle fights and I will miss these days. Every stage of your life is a season and seasons come and go. I embrace the here and now while it is mine to take.

What do you crave? I would love to hear from you!

The Marvel Journey: Iron Man

Some quick research on Iron Man:

It was released on May 2, 2008. It’s directed by Jon Favreau and obviously stars Robert Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, and Terrence Howard. It grossed $98,618,668 on its opening weekend and worldwide grossed $585,174,222. This movie is second if you watch it in chronological order.

I have seen Iron Man before. A long long long long long time ago. I remembered not one thing…. luckily. It was an absolute pleasure to watch again!! Here were some of my favorite/interesting moments: obvious SPOILERS ahead, (it’s been 11 years, y’all).

  • The Stan Cameo – Stan Lee was mistook as Hugh Hefner at Tony Stark’s party. RDJ taps him on the shoulder, says he’s “looking good, Hef” and Stan Lee turns around. It was rather comedic. RIP Stan Lee.
  • When the robot kept spraying Tony when he falls during the Iron Man suit trial and error. Loved it.
  • The totally bada** way Tony broke out of the hostage situation.
  • Yinsen. I loved him. Having just watched Captain America, I clearly saw the parrellelism between the way Yinsen dies and the way Dr. Abraham Erskine dies. Heck, the two characters are also very similar too. They are both educated and I want to say they’re both doctors? (Not sure about Yinsen though…) They are both foreign and as they are dying, the hero in our movies hold them as they tell our hero to do good in their lives. It was a huge revelation to me and I wonder if there are other things in common between Cap and Iron Man.
  • The press conference where Tony says the weapon factory is shut down – I just saw a lot of similarities to our current climate in the US.
  • Was Tony’s armor in the first Iron Man suit really able to repel bullets like that? It just seemed unlikely to me.
  • Walt says a lot of the script was improvised. If that’s the truth, I could definitely pick up on Gwyneth Paltrow stumbling on what to say. Not sure how accurate that is or how stylistic that is.

So overall, I really enjoyed this movie! Mason seemed to be bored throughout but when the action was on, he did much better. Next on our list is The Incredible Hulk! We’ll see how it goes 🙂

Day 22: All About Me

What makes you different from everybody else?

I’m not really sure if I am different from everybody else. I think the idea that we are special or different from the norm isn’t necessarily accurate. Mostly because of three words: It’s a Matrix.

Only partially kidding of course… I do, however, love conspiracy theories so I guess that is one way I stand out.

Let’s review some other ways:

I have unruly bright red hair. Merida is clearly my spirit animal. It’s very easy to spot me in a crowd.

I guess you could also say that being quick witted is another gift of mine. And having no filter when I really should.

I’m empathetic by nature and I think that that is something lacking in other people these days.

I didn’t find out what gender Silas was before he was born. That’s something different.

I can’t keep secrets. Like at all.

I bite into my string cheese when people aren’t watching.

I hate sushi, bananas, milkshakes, strawberries, chocolate ice cream, and yogurt, just to name a few, (textures).

I’m a huge procrastinator.

I like rules and think they’re important.

I watch trashy TV all day long.

I love to karaoke and public speaking.

I love black and white movies. My favorite movie of all time is Casablanca. Some of my favorite actresses and actors come from those types of movies – especially Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman.

That’s all I can really think of but I think all of those things combined together makes me somewhat unique.

What makes you different from everyone else? Let me know below!

Day 21: All About Me

A picture of something that makes you happy

(This clearly says something which is why I am not posting a picture of the people in my life who make my life better and larger every day.)

I could just say birthdays make me happy, specifically my children’s, but I have just one birthday tradition that makes me happiest: the cake. Butttt I have to tell you a little bit about my childhood in order for you to understand why a cake, (like my 5 year old’s Pokémon birthday cake), makes me happy.

Growing up, my parents didn’t have much. I never ever realized it though. They always provided for us and our birthdays and Christmases were always filled with presents. One thing my mom took pride in was throwing us themed birthday parties. And she ALWAYS outdid herself in the cake department.

If I had a princess party, she made this amazing castle cake. If I had a detective birthday party, she made an amazing magnifying glass. You name it, she did it. It was always the highlight of my birthday because I knew my mom would be making me a special cake that I had helped pick out.

Fast forward to today and I have decided to carry on the tradition of making cakes for my children’s birthdays. I love it! It makes me happy to see Mason’s face light up when he sees his cake for the first time. My mom also comes up and helps me decorate the cake so it’s now a tradition we share together. And obviously I know that my cake is not perfect. But it’s made with love and if Mason can’t remember anything else about his birthday parties growing up, at least he’ll have pictures of the cake.

What are some things that make you happiest? Let me know in the comments!

Day 20: All About Me

Someone you see yourself marrying/being with in the future

Jokes on them… just celebrated my 5th wedding anniversary in August to Walter.

So, in order to save you all from a super sappy post about how wonderful Walty is and how great our live is together, I’m pulling my administration strings and announcing: REMIX! New post: Celebrity crush

This goofy guy is Jason Segel and my celebrity crush. I’m a sucker for funny guys and tall guys and he is both so with that being said, I would definitely, most likely, giggle uncontrollably if I ever saw him in person because when I crush on someone, I can’t be like normal people and play it cool. That just doesn’t work for me.

So who would be your celebrity crush? Let me know in the comments below!

Day 19: All About Me

Nicknames you have, why do you have them

I actually only have one nickname: Red.

That’s because I have red hair. It’s very clever, I know. I just got it about 3 years ago.

When I was in grade school, (I’ve ALWAYS wanted to say that), they called me Grace the Ace from Outer Space. I think that was only because it rhymed.

Then, I tried for a long time to have like a fun nickname that I would have to explain the story behind why someone called me that, like Scooter or Ace, but that never happened.

When I was working through college, I never corrected the people I worked with that called me Victoria because it’s my first name. So I guess because Grace is my middle name and my preference that it is a nickname? I’m not sure.

When I got married, I started a career as a teacher and the kids call me Mrs. Gray…. In fact, some colleagues call me Gray. But I believe that’s because it’s my last name and has nothing to do with the fact I read 50 Shades. I hope.

What about you? What nicknames have come and gone or stick around to stay? Share below!

Day 18: All About Me

Plans/dreams/goals you have

  • To graduate with a masters degree in school librarianship

  • To see as much of the world as I can
  • To see Hamilton in theatre
  • To swim with the dolphins
  • To own a boat and some jet skis
  • To have one more baby

  • To work on my marriage
  • To write a book
  • To live a healthy lifestyle
  • To retire young so I can live

Day 17: All About Me

Someone you would want to switch lives with for one day and why

I know you’re probably suspecting me to go with the fairly typical answer like Taylor Swift or maybe even kind enough to think I’d choose someone like Michelle Obama. I would put all of those chances aside to switch lives with one person only: my husband.

Walter is a very private guy and keeps things to himself. Part of his job requires not talking about the ins and outs. Plus, when I upset him, instead of telling me, he bottles it in. He just bottles and bottles and he could go years without telling me that one day in 2015 I made fun of his shirt and it hurt his feelings.

I share all of this to say that if I could switch lives, I would switch with Walter. I could gain understanding on his perspective and really understand how he feels. He also is prone to migraines so if we switched, I would be able to feel his pain and figure out how to help or support him through one. It also would be nice to see what a typical work day is like for him.

Sooooo, who would you switch lives with? Let me know in the comments section!!

Day 15: All About Me

Put your iPod on shuffle: First 10 songs that play
